Sad changes in JFKU cafeteria: disappear LL quadrant communication

Yesterday, I went to JFKU cafeteria to eat lunch and I noticed that some changes happened there. When I visited there last summer, some people (part-time worker?) operated it. However, there were no people there yesterday… Yes, some machines took the place of human beings.

If someone serves diets, communication occurs there. On the other hand, if machines do them, there is no communication there. I think that this communication is important for us, human beings even if that is a small communication.

I’ll explain this situation using Integral Theory, LR serving system at a cafeteria changed from human beings to machines, then, LL important communications disappeared. These changes affect UL students’ mental conditions… Actually, I had no friends and acquaintances in USA last summer, so only small greetings with part-time workers at a café made me happy.

I highly value JFKU because JFKU introduced the world’s first Integral Studies programs. However, when I saw the above situation, I think JFKU has gone wrong way.

Is it OK that only programs become integral? I think no. A real integral education needs not only integral programs (LR) but also others.

Started my new life in USA.

Yesterday, I arrived at Pleasant Hill in California. It took about 10 hours from Japan. Yes, it was long flight. To tell you the truth, I was always very busy last month. I had to work, participated in a lot of farewell parties (of course, I appreciated these parties) and moving preparation etc. So, I reached a peak of my fatigue and I slept for 15 hours last night!

Long sleep made me fine. I’m all right to start my new life in USA.

Japanese Kanji

Foreigners sometimes criticize the ambiguity of Japanese language, but I think Japanese language has interesting aspects.

One is Kanji. Do you know it? It is originated from Chinese.

I’ll show you one of Kanji’s interesting things. Most one Kanji character is comprised of two meanings. For example, “働” equal to “work”. Then, “働” is divided into “人” and “動”. “人” means “people” and “動” means “move or act.”

Yes, working is that people move or act.

Like the above example, Japanese language enables us to express a luxuriant language activity.

What’s your shadow work?

What shadow work do you do usually? In my case, I do 3-2-1 shadow work when I notice my shadow appeared.

Although shadow work is a core module in Integral Life Practice, I sometimes forget the importance and I tend to do only mind module practices (reading a book or blog, diary) or body module practices (running, yoga, soccer, swimming etc.)

I need to practice shadow work more, not only 3-2-1 work but also transmuting my negative emotions.

Moreover, I have never taken psychotherapy before, so once I’d like to try it.

I think that Zuckerberg is one of great innovators in 21st century. He made a creative platform, facebook in this world. I also wanted to create a platform on facebook, like an Integral community.

Facebook will become essential communicating system (Integral Theory:lower right quadrant) in the very near future.

I have to buy a Mac Book?

I want to buy a new laptop computer, so I went over what is good. As a result, I chose Apple’s Mac Book Pro or Mac Book Air. I watched Apple’s website video and I thought Mac has wonderful design, performance and software.

One of my bosses in my company said a funny thing:” You will go to California, right? If you have a windows computer there, you will be kicked out of West Coast!”

We, Japanese have a strong image to West Coast. That is Silicon Valley, especially Apple or Google, nowadays Facebook. I must buy an Apple’s Mac because I’ll be on the West Coast lol.

Today, I want to show you my answer for " How does your desire to enroll in this program align with your sense of yourself and your life aspirations?" This was second question in personal statement, which JFKU admission suggested.

My life aspirations are to work globally doing exciting things and to contribute to the world using my own unique knowledge and experiences.

Since I was a little child, I have always had a desire to work on an international level and do valuable things for the world. Since I was 12 years old, I wanted to become an international lawyer for International Court of Justice in The Netherlands*. But this dream of mine changed at 18 when I had the opportunity to study business in one of the top universities of Japan- Hitotsubashi University, where I got this motivation to be an international business person. Now, I am an international tax consultant, so my dream has come true in a way. However, through my daily work, I felt that my view of things was becoming narrow where I wondered whether my work was really contributing to the world or not. This is where I said to myself “I want to get away from this daily routine at any cost.” or “I wanted to change myself by all means.”

During my struggle to find a new myself and a better way of contributing to the world, I found about this MA program in Integral Psychology on the internet and something screamed within my mind “This is what I really wanted!!” I believe that Integral Theory is a meta-theory and has a much broader range of applications than any other theory. Therefore, I believe this program provides me a golden opportunity to nurture my skills through, develop a deeper understanding of psychology and contribute to the world in my own way.

*When I was a child, I thought working at International Court of Justice is most prestigious in the legal profession.
